Home/Resources/Bathroom Remodeling Timeline Guide

Understanding the timeline of a bathroom renovation helps you plan your schedule and set realistic expectations. Here is a detailed breakdown of what happens during each phase of a General Modernizer bathroom renovation.

Day 1 to 2: Demolition

The renovation begins with careful demolition of existing surfaces. Tile, fixtures, and any elements being replaced are removed. Our crew works methodically to protect adjacent areas and dispose of debris properly. Any hidden issues such as water damage or outdated plumbing are identified at this stage.

Day 2 to 3: Rough Plumbing

If any plumbing is being relocated or updated, rough plumbing work is completed before walls are closed. This includes moving drain lines, supply lines, and any new plumbing rough-ins for additional fixtures.

Day 3 to 4: Waterproofing

Proper waterproofing is the most critical phase of any bathroom renovation. A waterproofing membrane is applied to all wet areas including shower walls and floors. This phase cannot be rushed -- the membrane must cure fully before tile installation begins.

Day 4 to 8: Tile Installation

Tile installation is typically the longest phase of the renovation. Floor tile is installed first, followed by wall tile and shower tile. Custom patterns, large-format tile, and intricate designs require additional time. Built-in niches and bench seating are tiled during this phase.

Day 8 to 10: Fixture Installation

Once tile is set and grouted, fixtures are installed. This includes the vanity, toilet, sink, faucets, shower fixtures, mirrors, and accessories. Electrical fixtures such as lighting and exhaust fans are also installed during this phase.

Day 10 to 12: Finishing

The final phase includes trim installation, paint touch-ups, caulking, and all finishing details. Glass shower enclosures are typically installed during this phase as well, as they require the tile to be fully cured.

Final Day: Walkthrough

We personally inspects every detail of the completed bathroom before the final walkthrough with you. Any items requiring attention are addressed immediately. We do not consider the job complete until you are fully satisfied with the result.
